The UK does applications differently, and the fee part confuses everyone at first. You mostly go through UCAS. One application, one fee, up to five choices. Oxford, a small art school, a big red-brick university: same fee. It is simpler and usually cheaper than the US model.
- Use all five choices. Your fifth choice is effectively free once you have paid for the first four. Leaving slots empty is leaving value on the table. - Medicine, dentistry, and veterinary courses have earlier deadlines and test fees. Conservatoires run a separate system entirely. - Postgrad usually skips UCAS: each university sets its own fee or waives it, so the spread is wide and comparing pays off more than anywhere else. - Keep perspective: the UCAS fee is small next to the real UK costs: the visa, the healthcare surcharge, London rent.
